Preserved spinach from Penguen    ( 24.05.2008 / Hürriyet)

Based in Bursa as a part of GENÇOĞLU Holding, Penguen Gıda Sanayi AŞ has introduced to the market its new product: preserved spinach. Board Chairman of Gençoğlu Holding, Turhan Gençoğlu said they were working on ready-for-consumption products that possess the quality and hygiene of homemade food. Gençoğlu said the following: “Spinach is a vegetable that takes long to wash and cook. Unavailable all the four seasons, spinach is sometimes grown in poor conditions. We, on the other hand, manufacture in hygienic conditions by implementing our ‘contract-based agriculture’ strategy allowing us to control everything related to the product. There is a serious shift trend in Turkey towards convenience food. Considering that trend, we have conducted some R&D to manufacture products that would lower the time women spend cooking but maintain the same taste. The preserved spinach is one of the outcomes of our work. We now target to sell 1 million jars of it. We also plan to expand the product to overseas markets after the home market. We believe the product offers a serious export potential, just as we had it with our roasted peppers.”
