| Penguen to sell 1 million jars of preserved spinach ( 24.05.2008 / Vatan) | ||||
| Exports account for half of the turnover Board Chairman of GENÇOĞLU Holding, Turhan Gençoğlu said Penguen Gıda would be increasing its turnover this year to YTL 78 million from last year’s YTL 66.5 million achieving a 20-percent growth by launching new products. Gençoğlu also noted that half of the turnover would come from exports with Germany as the leading export partner. Turhan Gençoğlu added that the company was planning to retain its 2008 growth rate of 20 percent as a minimum for later years as well. Enjoying great success in exports by selling roasted peppers in glass jars, Penguen Gıda is now offering preserved spinach. The company plans to sell a million jars of the new product during the first year after launch. Preserved spinach, the new product of Penguen Gıda Sanayi, a Gençoğlu Holding company, has been launched. Speaking of Penguen Gıda’s plans to launch three new products in 2008, Board Chairman of Gençoğlu Holding, Turhan Gençoğlu pointed to the preserved spinach’s role as one of these directions. Gençoğlu said the company was working on manufacturing convenience food of the same quality and taste as homemade food. Moms to have more time to themselves Highlighting the company’s pioneering role in offering the world’s first and only preserved spinach in jars ready for consumption, Gençoğlu also said: “Spinach is one of the favorite meals, but its preparation takes a lot of time. Washing, sorting out and storage in a hygienic environment take a lot of time for women who work. For them, we are introducing our new product offering genuine taste as if homemade. The product can be used as garnish, inside pies or to cook scrambled eggs with spinach. We are planning to sell 1 million of jars during the first year with subsequent exports to Europe. We believe there as a real potential for this product’s export just as it had been with canned roasted peppers.” Gençoğlu also highlighted the transparency of jars as a factor allowing to see the quality of the product inside, adding that the new product could be consumed as a ready meal by itself or as garnish. GENÇOĞLU HOLDING OWNS 5 COMPANIES Talking about the 5 companies owned by Gençoğlu Holding, Turhan Gençoğlu said “Penguen Gıda is one, the others being Bursa Haber (a daily), Radyo Vizyon, Pen-Kon and Mek Tütün”. Juice production to start in 2009 Penguen Gıda is preparing to set foot on new fields of business next year. Pointing to the company’s target of becoming a worldwide food brand, Turhan Gençoğlu added “Closer to the end of 2009, we are planning to start manufacturing juices and continue our works in this direction. We are currently reviewing juice mixes offered worldwide.” Gençoğlu continued by adding: “We have been on the Turkish market for 10 years already and have grown ten times since the establishment becoming one of the 3 largest exporters in our industry. We are now leading the market in preserves and rank among the first four in canned food. The company was named “food brand of the year” by Consumers’ Report (Tüketici Raporu) magazine this year. | ||||
